American Idol (Season 7): Top 7 Performance Night

IdolI am really excited for this episode because it’s a Mariah Carey week on Idol. I am not a huge fan of Mariah but I do apprecaite her classic songs. I agree with the judges that the ladies will find it hard to give an original interpretation of Mariah’s songs compared to the gentlemen.

No more Michael Johns for this week. I am still disappointed with last week’s results.

Okay, okay, let’s start…

Brooke White sang “Hero”. It’s like Brooke was in a hurry when she was singing the song. There were some parts which are not that good. What I like about Brooke is she can give a performance coming from her heart, that’s why I can really feel her emotions while she is singing.

Carly Smithson sang “Without You”. It was good but not amazing.

David Archuleta sang “When You Believe”. Like what I always say, I think David of as an “inspirational singer”. And I think the song fits him. I am not a David Archuleta fan but I like his interpretation of the song. Very nice.

David Cook sang “Always Be My Baby”. It was such a brave thing to do but it was really amazing. Two thumbs up for David Cook. I didn’t like his two previous performances but he is now back. I love it.

Jason Castro sang “I Don’t Want To Cry”. I do not know the song. His performance sounded pleasing to the ears. I might try listening to his full version of the song. This might be similar to his performance of “If I Fell” during the Beatles week. I didn’t like his performance but after listening to his full version of the song, I realized that his version is good.

Kristy Lee Cook sang “Forever”. It seems like she finds it somehow hard to sing the song. But in fairness to her, I can see her improving week after week. But her performance tonight is not that amazing. I still love her “Faithfully” performance.

Syesha Mercado sang “Vanishing”. I do not know the song. But listening to her, I can say that she gave a good performance. But I just noticed that she is always in the bottom three whenever she picks a song which is not known by many, even though she interprets it nice. She might be in danger because of her song choice.

Wow, we are already hitting the middle of the competition! Anyway, as usual, here are my rankings for this episode…

1. David Cook
2. David Archuleta
3. Carly Smithson
4. Jason Castro
5. Brooke White
6. Syesha Mercado
7. Kristy Lee Cook

Results night is tomorrow. I hope that the results will be not disappointing just like last week.
