American Idol (Season 7): Top 10 Performance Night

IdolBefore anything else, this blog entry is few hours later than the original live broadcast of American Idol because it is shown few hours later here in the Philippines.

But anyway, the theme for this week are the songs released or famous on the year when they were born. Actually, I find today’s episode a little boring because I only know a few songs from the songs they sang. They have a wide variety of song choices, and I just want to respect that those are the songs they chose.

Brooke White sang “Every Breath You Take”. I agree with the judges, the first part was okay, but I didn’t like how it sounded somewhere in the middle up to the last part of the song. It may have been sounded better if she did the piano thing all through out, but even though, it might just sound okay, but not fantastic.

Carly Smithson sang “Total Eclipse Of The Heart”. The song is famous. It’s actually a nice song to sing in a karaoke/videoke. Carly should have done something different with the song. Like what the judges say, the performance is forgettable.

Chikezie Eze sang “If Only For One Night”. I found the song good, but I really don’t like Chikezie’s performances when he sings ballad. Somehow boring.

David Archuleta sang “You’re The Voice”. The song is good. Well, he sang it well. But I agree with Simon, it’s like a theme park performance - it’s like while he’s singing the song, animated creatures will come in, etc.

David Cook sang “Billie Jean”. And it is… Wow. Fantastic. Amazing. It was a brave thing to do and I think he made the right choice. He can be a winner.

Jason Castro sang “Fragile”. It somehow sounded “bossa”. I like bossa nova. I might like the song when I listened to it. But with Jason’s performance, I don’t think I like it that much.

Kristy Lee Cook sang “God Bless The USA”. Okay, I’ll give credits to her for the judges’ good comments to her performance. But her song choice left a big question mark to many. Is it a desperate move, or the right move?

Michael Johns sang “We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions”. Great. At last, he shone. But like what I said last week, many compare him to David Cook. Because of that, it’s like he is somehow behind. But he is very good in tonight’s performance.

Ramiele Malubay sang “Alone”. I think she is sick. She sang it well, though I still don’t think she had a good choice of song, but it’s better compared the last two weeks. I still believe in her that if she can find a perfect song for her, she can really outshine Syesha.

Syesha Mercado sang “If I was Your Woman”. I do not know the song that’s why I was not interested to watch her. Well, according to Randy, it was very good. Oh well, okay. Fine.

Well, it’s like more of my comments are negative. Haha. Now, my bottom three. Hmmm, let me think… Carly Smithson, Jason Castro, and Kristy Lee Cookk (again).

And my top 3… I’ll just make it Top 2… Michael Johns and David Cook.
